2006 Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue
Lynchburg, Tennessee Oct 27 & 28
There were over 25,000 people and media from all over the world
in attendance at the Jack Daniel's 18th
Annual World Championship Invitational Barbecue held on Oct 27 & 28 in
Lynchburg, Tennessee. Congratulations to the cancersuckschicago.com team
who won the coveted
title of Grand Champions. It was an unbelievable experience and
the team is thrilled to have had the chance to compete.
Team Cedar Grilling finished 50th
overall and placed 4th overall in the
International division. The team competed against the best barbequers
in the world under grueling conditions. After 2 days of non-stop
miserable weather, the rain and wind held off just long enough for the
International parade on Friday evening, and then cleared up overnight
for the Saturday festivities.
There were 15 International teams from Austria, Poland, Australia, Puerto Rico, England, Germany,
Switzerland and Canada along with one team from
each of the 50 U.S. states. There were 48 teams competing in the Shade
Tree division.
The Team Cedar Grilling booth was decorated with antique Canadian sports
memorabilia and had two family members dressed in full Mountie uniforms
to talk to barbeque fans from around the world.
The Mounties led the Team in the parade proudly flying two Canadian
flags borrowed from the Acton Legion, while the team handed out Canadian
flags and pins to spectators. When it was time for the teams
competition food turn-in, the Mounties would part the crowds in front of
a team member carrying the food so the delicate plate wouldn’t be bumped
during the five minute journey to the judging area.
The team is extremely thankful to the many Canadians from
Georgetown, Barrie, Bala, Mississauga and Guelph who made the 2900 km trip to
Tennessee to support Team Cedar Grilling at this International event.
Team Cedar Grilling has been invited to compete next year in Belgium and
Puerto Rico.
